“Hollywood” California

Informally, “Hollywood” refers to the Movie & Television Studios of the greater Los Angeles area and, to some degree, the movie/television industry throughout the USA. Formally, Hollywood is a district in Los Angeles (around Hollywood Blvd. & Vine St.). This page includes “Hollywood” photos from the cities of Burbank, Studio City, Universal City, Beverly Hills, and, of course, Los Angeles.

Before beginning the photo tour, a photo overview of some of Burbank (as seen from Universal Studios Hollywood), previewing a few stops of the tour. This photo tour begins in Burbank with The Walt Disney Company’s headquarters and studios, located at 500 South Buena Vista Street. Moving west on Alameda, next are NBC Studios and Warner Bros. Studios. A quick drive just a little further west is Studio City, is where the CBS Studio Center is located. Moving back toward Hollywood along Ventura Blvd., is Universal City (and in new window, see photos of Universal Studios Hollywood) at the top of the hill. Then, moving down off the hill and south on the 101 Hollywood Freeway, next comes Hollywood — traveling along Hollywood Blvd. from Gower to past Vine and Highland to nearly La Brea. On La Brea just south of Sunset is The Jim Henson Company, once the studio of Charlie Chaplin, and then head back to the east on Sunset Blvd. to head south on Gower Street to look back at the Hollywood sign and then past Paramount Studios on Gower and then Melrose. A little further south is Beverly Blvd., and heading west, it passes Pan Pacific Park and CBS Television City (and the neighboring Farmers Market). Even further west is Century City’s Fox Tower (seen as the Nakatomi Building in the original Die Hard Movie) and, finally, the Hollywood sign as viewed from a Beverly Hills hotel on a clear day.

The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson

From the souvenir files, my ticket to the March 12, 1992 show. Johnny only did 26 more shows after this one. Johnny’s guests: Burt Reynolds, Pete Barbutti, Ahmad Rashad. Ed McMahon, Doc Severinsen and the band were all there too, of course.

The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson

More than 20 years after attending The Tonight Show (and three episodes of The Late Show with David Letterman in New York City in the mid-1990s), my ticket for what turned out to be the taping of both the December 6 and 7, 2012 episodes: December 6 with guests Denis Leary, Eddie Izzard, and Richie Sambora leading the house band; and December 7 with guests Julie Delpy, Lamorne Morris, and Richie Sambora leading the house band (and Craig Ferguson singing the closing number which, if you were watching carefully, he ran right past me, right on the aisle in the second row.
